The Early Career Framework (ECF)
The headteacher is expected to ensure that ECTs receive a programme of training that enables ECTs to understand and apply the knowledge and skills set out in each of the ITTECF framework (learn that) statements and practice (learn how to) statements. ECF based training is expected to be embedded as a central aspect of induction; it is not an additional training programme.
There are three options schools can choose from to enable the delivery of the ECF based induction. It is up to the headteachers to choose the approach that best suits the needs of their ECTs and mentors. The three approaches are;
Option 1 - (Recommended) Full induction programme with Teach First.
Using a training provider to deliver ECF-based training (provider-led programme): this is a funded provider-led programme with Teach First offering high-quality training for ECTs and their mentors alongside professional development materials. Xavier’s role is to implement the training element of this programme offering high-quality and flexible provision for schools.
Option 2 - Core induction Programme Using- DfE-accredited materials to deliver ECF-based training.
Using DfE-accredited materials to deliver ECF-based training: schools can draw on the content of the professional development materials accredited by the DfE to deliver their own ECT and mentor support.
Option 3- School Based induction Programme - Designing and delivering their own training programme based on the ECF
Designing and delivering their own training programme based on the ECF: school can design and deliver their own induction programme, based on the early career framework.
If you are Using DfE-accredited materials to deliver ECF-based training or designing and delivering their own training programme based on the ECF you will be required to agree to and undertake a rigorous ECF fidelity checking.
Xavier Teaching School Hub would highly recommend the Teach First Full Induction Package. Each ECT will receive online materials and support, local seminars delivered by our expert practitioners, plus a network of colleagues to share best practice and experiences with.
