In February 2024, the DfE published the new Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF) which, for the first time, combines initial teacher training (ITT) and early career teacher (ECT) training into a single framework.  The framework comes into effect from September 2025.

Based on the best available research, the new ITTECF sets out the core body of knowledge, skills and behaviours that define great teaching.  The framework is designed to cover the content required by trainee teachers and ECTs, irrespective of subject and phase.  The ITTECF is a minimum training entitlement, which accredited ITT providers and ECF lead providers will add to, as they deem appropriate for their curriculum.

In response to feedback from past and present trainees and ECTs, and from the sector in general, the new framework includes significant additional content on SEND, EYFS, oracy, behaviour management, mental health and the use of technology.
